Tower Crane Operators

Tower Crane Operators require a good understanding of Health and Safety as this career involves using heavy materials and machinery on construction sites. Communication skills are important, as operators will need to stay in constant contact with those around them.

The equipment can be very complicated, so operators need be taught all they need to know on special courses. Training and experience on the job is used to make him or her a competent tower crane operator.

There are no specific academic qualifications required, although a knowledge of vehicle engineering and GCSEs / Standard Grades in Maths, English and Technology may be helpful. You will need to be 18 to undertake this training.

Apprenticeships are the usual route in and enable you earn while you learn. Entry to this scheme will usually require you to take a selection test. You will then be given practical on-site experience and work towards NVQ/SVQ Level 2.

CPCS Accreditation No. 4754CPCSThe Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) is the Construction Industries route to measure the competence of Plant Operators. The vast majority of employers require any Plant Operator to be in possession of a relevant CPCS Card. No Card, No Work !
